Student visa programme requirements in Ireland

a group of students with their English teacher

Participants from outside the EEA can benefit from a 25-week academic year programme which allows them to stay in Ireland for 8 months with the right to work part-time for 6 months (while studying) and full-time for 2 months in summer months as well as in December and January. Students can extend their stay up to two times (24 months in total). Both long terms and short-term, EU and non-EU students, first-time visitors and those who extend their visas attend the classes and progress in English together.  Please note that depending on your country of origin you might be required to apply for visa, or not, before coming to Ireland. In case you need a visa, please allow ample time for your visa application to be considered.
All non-EU students applying for the academic year programme are required to:

  • have a private medical insurance to cover their entire stay in Ireland (our school can provide it)
  • make arrangements for accommodation ahead of their arrival in Ireland (we can help with this, too)
  • pay the course fees in full (we provide a secure escrow facility at  https://flywire.com/pay/yourenglish-escrow)
  • have sufficient funds available to stay in Ireland
  • register through the school for an end-of-course exam shortly after arriving in Ireland
  • register with GNIB shortly after arriving in Ireland

For all requirements please refer to these pages:

Attendance:

As per the Department of Justice regulations, academic year non-EEA students in Ireland are required to have attendence of minimum 85%.  The students' attendance is recorded twice a day: for the first class (9.15 -10.45) and the second class (10.45-12.30). If your attendance falls below the 85% limit you will be notified by letter of your current attendance % and the need to attend class. Persistent and unjustified absence may result in you being expelled and may impact negatively on your visa status .

We help our students build real, everyday English so they can feel confident communicating at work and in daily life. All of our courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), so you can clearly understand your level and see your progress as you improve. Our lessons are based on trusted course books from Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. In class, you’ll learn through a mix of textbooks, real-life materials, and interactive online tools. Our lessons are well-organised, engaging, and designed to help you feel comfortable speaking and participating from day one. We combine grammar and vocabulary with practical skills like speaking, listening, reading, and writing. You’ll take part in role-plays, games, and small projects that help you use English in real-life situations—not just in a classroom. We monitor and support your progress every step of the way. Your teacher will give you regular feedback on your performance in class and will correct your mistakes in speaking and writing.  At the end of each week, you will either take a short test or complete a communicative task with your classmates, which will be assessed by your teacher. Every six weeks, you will take a level test (covering speaking, reading, writing and listening as well as grammar and vocabulary) to check if you are ready to move to the next level. Learning English is not just about language—it’s also about culture. That’s why we introduce you to Irish life, history, and famous places, helping you feel more at home during your stay.  What really makes our school special is our teachers. They are fully qualified, experienced, and passionate about helping you succeed—and they’re always there to support you.
