Work Study Visa Programme for International Students

Elementary English class students in a classroom

Student visa programme overview

Students from all over the world are welcome to join our intensive morning classes. You will study carefully selected grammar points and new vocabulary in context every day. You will work on all four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) but the main focus will be on everyday communication. You will improve your pronunciation and work on identifying your own mistakes and correcting them. In class you will work individually, in pairs and small groups and you will be expected to do some homework in the evenings to revise and further practice material covered in class. Two 90-minute sessions run from 9:15AM to 12:30PM and are followed by an optional speaking module from 12:45PM to 1:45PM.

Student visa programme requirements in Ireland

A girl holding her English certificate

Participants from outside the EEA can benefit from a 25-week academic year programme which allows them to stay in Ireland for 8 months with the right to work part-time for 6 months (while studying) and full-time for 2 months in summer months as well as in December and January. Students can extend their stay up to two times (24 months in total). Both long terms and short-term, EU and non-EU students, first-time visitors and those who extend their visas attend the classes and progress in English together.  Please note that depending on your country of origin you might be required to apply for visa, or not, before coming to Ireland. In case you need a visa, please allow ample time for your visa application to be considered.
All non-EU students applying for the academic year programme are required to:

  • have a private medical insurance to cover their entire stay in Ireland (our school can provide it)
  • make arrangements for accommodation ahead of their arrival in Ireland (we can help with this, too)
  • pay the course fees in full (we provide a secure escrow facility at  https://flywire.com/pay/yourenglish-escrow)
  • have sufficient funds available to stay in Ireland
  • register through the school for an end-of-course exam shortly after arriving in Ireland
  • register with GNIB shortly after arriving in Ireland

For all requirements please refer to these pages:

Attendance:

As per the Department of Justice regulations, academic year non-EEA students are required to have atendence of minimum 85%.  The students' attendance is recorded twice a day: for the first class (9.15 -10.45) and the second class (10.45-12.30). If your attendance falls below the 85% limit you will be notified by letter of your current attendance % and the need to attend class. Persistent and unjustified absence may result in you being expelled and may impact negatively on your visa status .

We want our students to learn everyday English that will allow them to communicate at work and in everyday situations. In order to achieve that, we have created our own syllabus and materials which not only present standard English grammar and vocabulary but also highlight specific elements of the English spoken in Ireland. Most of the audio recordings used in the class have been recorded especially for us and they feature Irish native speakers, which help the students get used to the specific Irish accent. In class we use authentic materials and try to create everyday situations while maintaining friendly and stimulating atmosphere. We do our best to ensure the classes are well-planned, interesting and effective. More traditional grammar and vocabulary exercises seamlessly interlock with reading and listening comprehension exercises, pair work and extras such as simple games, crosswords and role-play.
